ICORMed Collaborative was established in 2022 by a group of medical students, healthcare professionals, and professors from around the world. The organization hopes to enable research beyond borders and facilitate international conversation on pressing medical issues.

MEET THE FOUNDING RESEARCH GROUP

Wireko Andrew Awuah
Research Team Lead
Wireko Andrew Awuah is a sixth-year medical student at Sumy State University in Ukraine. He has won multiple scholarships to currently complete his clinical internships in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and other parts of Europe. He has a strong interest in scientific research, which has led to him attending numerous conferences around the world and authoring a number of papers. Andrew's significant contributions to science have earned him numerous awards, most notably the best medical student award winner for 2020 at Sumy State University.

Toufik Abdul-Rahman
Research Assistant Lead
Abdul-Rahman Toufik is the CEO and founder of Toufik’s World Organization and Toufik’s World Medical Association. He has a diploma in International Environmental Law and Governance and currently studies medicine at Sumy State University, Ukraine. He is the Deputy Director for the Sumy State University Intramural Health Case Competition and an Associate Editor at the Harvard Public Health Review and a Senior Editor at The Nyc Daily Post. He has participated in and also held several International Positions on various United Nations and medical conference platforms.

Helen Huang
Genetics Research Lead
Helen Huang is a Year 3 Medical Student studying at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She is originally from Vancouver, Canada and hopes to pursue an IM residency in North America. Coupled with her passion for art, she exercises her artistic capabilities by creating graphical abstracts and was responsible for the design of ICORMed's website. Her research interests include cancer epigenetics, translational medicine, bioinformatics, immunology, gastroenterology, cardiology and public health.

Aashna Mehta
Global Surgery Research Lead
Aashna Mehta is a 5th Year Medical Student at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. She has plans to pursue a Surgical Residency in the US. Having many years of experience, she frequently assists in leading research papers and has a strong passion for the creation of topics in various specialities. However, her main research interests include Surgery, Global Surgery and Health Policy. She has experience with abstracts and posters at several medical conferences across the world.

Jacob Kalmanovich
Neurology Research Lead
Jacob Kalmanovich is a 2nd-year Medical Student at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He is originally from Brooklyn, NY and plans to pursue a residency in Neurology. He has applied his expertise in writing papers and making valuable contributions to scientific content for the group. His specific research interests include neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, neuromuscular disorders, autoimmune diseases, AI, oncology and public health.

Mrinmoy Kundu
Global Surgery Research Lead
Mrinmoy Kundu is a 2nd-year medical student at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital. He has achieved a high level of proficiency in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, traits which make him a valuable contributor to the team. His research interests include neurosurgery, translational medicine, and global health.

Rohan Yarlagadda
Neurology Research Lead
Rohan Yarlagadda is a fourth-year medical student at Rowan University SOM in New Jersey with a strong passion for neuroscience, research, and public health. He has previously obtained a B.S. in neuroscience at Emory University and has continued his passion for research as a a leader of various organizations. Rohan has a multicultural background, having lived in both the US during his childhood and in India in his formative years.

Jyi Cheng Ng
Global Surgery Research Lead
Jyi Cheng is a Year 5 Medical Student studying at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Putra Malaysia. She is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and hopes to pursue a General Surgery residency in the United States of America. She's particularly interested in outcomes research, minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology.

Dr Athanasios Alexiou
Faculty Member of the Novel Global Community Education Foundation in Australia

Dr. Alexiou has a BSc in Applied Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1998, a PhD in Bioinformatics Algorithms and Mathematical Modeling in Biology in 2012, and a two-year PostDoc Research Fellowship in Neuroinformatics Applications in 2015 from the Ionian University.
Dr Alexiou's main research field is Biomedical Informatics and Bioethics, specializing in Medical Decision Support Systems, Biomarkers Modeling, and Computational Neuroscience. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Frontiers Journals Genetics, Pharmacology and Sociology in the Section of ELSI in Science and Genetics, Guest Associate Editor in the Frontiers Neuroscience and Psychology Journals, and Section Editor in the Current Alzheimer Research Journal.
